Catalog photographs that change what shares a basket
We compared two stills of the same ceramic mug. Still A: white sweep, hard shadow, logo facing camera. Still B: the mug on a board with a folded napkin the shop also sells. Baskets from the listing that used Still B carried the napkin far more often, even when the napkin was not in a formal bundle.
This is not an argument for lifestyle clutter. Still B still showed the lip and handle clearly. The napkin occupied a corner, not the hero.
Where a category is already gift-coded — candles, ornaments — a bare sweep can be the honest picture. Where you want a second line in the ticket, the supporting object has to appear in the first or second frame, at a scale the thumb can recognise.
Commission photography with the basket in mind. Brief the prop as an SKU you actually stock, with a SKU written on the shot list, or you will get a napkin you cannot sell.
